A new, more-interactive presentation of genealogy data, including photos & source documents.
Genealogical data is now provided from an on-line database rather than from pre-prepared HTML pages. This not only makes updating easier (and hence more frequent), but it allows linking to photos, documents, etc. Several months ago, Karen Tennis sent me a number of old photos of the family of Fannie Jane Fackler Tennis (05.69) which I promised to publish on-line with the genealogy. This has now been completed. (Thanks, Karen!). [Go to the Genalogy Section and search for Fannie Fackler.] I hope this will stimulate other family members to submit photographs so that we can remember our ancestors as the appeared in life. My long-term goal is to connect all genealogical data to images of the documents from which that data was compiled. I have started this presentation with obituaries from recent Lancaster newspapers. [For the first such entries, see the "Memorials" section (below) and the genealogical database listings for these persons.]
Less dependence on DjVu Browser Plug-in.
I have re-presented some of the on-line resources in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. It would be nice to be entirely free of the bother of another browser plug-in (the DjVu plug-in), but DjVu files are only 5% - 20% as large as PDF files and the on-line copies of The Ranks of the Rancks and "The Ranck Reporter" are just to big to download in reasonable time, even on a high-speed internet connection. I am still seeking a satisfactory solution to this problem, but in the meantime, to view these two resources, you will still need to have the DjVu plugin. [It's an automatic installation from this link.}
Memorials
A new section where we will report the passing of Ranck family members as this information becomes known to us. (The semi-annual collection of all births, marriages, deaths and anniversaries in "The Ranck Reporter" will continue.)
Expanded information on Chateau de Vibrac.
It has been assumed, though not firmly established, that our earliest know ancestor, Jean Ranc, born in Paris in 1641, was part of the du Ranc family and hence, that we have a direct connection with Chateau de Vibrac. Numerous members of the Ranck Clan have visited Chateau de Vibrac and written reports of their experiences. Read in sequence, they relate the recent history of the Chateau and our fascination with our possibly noble heritage. Especially, don't miss the photo album presented to the Ranck Clan by the children and spouses of William E. and Marion S. Ranck after their 2000 visit.
A new ISP (Internet Service Provider). Result:
* A few cosmetic changes to the main menu;
* Hopefully, fewer "access denied" messages and spamming to the guest book;
* New capabilities for on-line presentation of documents, discussion forums
